Description

Students in this unit are expected to develop and implement their research project, collect and analyse the data, verify and validate their strategies/techniques and write up their thesis. The research work should possess a high level of originality, representing a significant contribution to the IT profession.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Collect and analyse data systematically in the verification and validation of the developed techniques/approaches.
  2. Complete the implementation/development of techniques/processes on a sound conceptual or theoretical framework that relates to the study for their Doctoral thesis.
  3. Identify the project requirements and work/communicate effectively with his/her supervisor(s).
  4. Write their Doctoral thesis.

Unit Content

  1. Appropriate data collection and data analysis techniques.
  2. Conceptual and theoretical frameworks.
  3. Ethical guidelines appropriate for the study.
  4. Experimental design appropriate for the study.
  5. Literature Review of the topic under study.
  6. Presentation of seminars including a seminar proposing a research program and a seminar presenting the final outcomes of the research.
  7. Research methodology that is appropriate for the study.
  8. Technical/Academic writing appropriate for papers and thesis.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Review of the area under study using appropriate library and electronic resources. Discussions with supervisors and other acknowledged experts. Conference and School presentations. Writing papers for conferences and journals.
