Description

This unit is for those who wish to extend their skill set into the area of scripting technologies. Using widely deployed industry standard scripting languages, the unit will focus on creating scripts to automate tasks, interface with external services and extend the capabilities of pre-existing software.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Interpret and evaluate scripted software in order to ensure the reliability and security of developed solutions.
  2. Design software solutions to perform desired tasks.
  3. Develop and deploy scripted software solutions using industry standard scripting languages to meet functional requirements.

  1. Introduction to scripting languages and environments.
  2. Interpretation and evaluation of scripts for reliability and security.
  3. Automating tasks using scripting techniques and technologies.
  4. Developing scripts to make use of pre-existing software.
  5. Utilisation of external services and network resources.
  6. Using command line techniques.
  7. Scripting runtime environments.
  8. Programming paradigms relating to programming / scripting.
