Description

This unit is designed to empower students with key concepts, theoretical knowledge and ways of undertaking social research and program evaluation in human service organisations. Students will learn about ethical processes for developing and completing social research projects. The applied research methods learned in this unit will enable students to develop relevant skills for evaluating programs for the community, human and government sectors.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Discuss the role of research in human service practice.
  2. Analyse ethical issues in social research.
  3. Deconstruct the research process and varying approaches to research in the human services field.
  4. Distinguish between the major research paradigms.
  5. Design and undertake a research proposal for a community organisation.
  6. Interpret and analyse data and present findings.
  7. Compile basic requirements of report writing.
