Description

The purpose of the Preparation of Thesis Proposal is to prepare students to write a thesis proposal, which includes an appropriate research design for their thesis. By the end of this unit students should be able to explain the significance of their proposed research, and justify choices made within their research design.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Acquire an understanding of the research topic through intellectual inquiry and a review of the literature.
  2. Identify a conceptually and/or professionally significant topic.
  3. Present a research proposal which conceptualises the research problem and demonstrates an understanding of the theoretical or conceptual background to the study. The research proposal also contains a plan for the conduct of the research.
  4. Present and explain the research proposal to reviewers and colleagues at a graduate seminar.

  4. Revise a research proposal in the light of a reviewers advice.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Student and supervisor/s meet on a regular basis to develop all stages of the thesis. Students undertake independent study to support development of their research proposal.
