This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to analyse dance movements and to apply the concepts and terminology of music to dance performances.
Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.

Performance Evidence of the ability to: recognise the source and style of a range of musical pieces, use knowledge of standard musical notation to interpret music relate choreography to musical accompaniment, analyse the effectiveness of dance performances in terms of their relationship to music use dance and music terminology correctly. Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided for each of the above points at least once.
Knowledge Evidence - demonstrate basic knowledge of music from the following cultural contexts: classical music, folk music, Indigenous music, popular music social contexts of musical and dance performances,theatrical music world music. In the context of analysing the relationship between music and dance, explain key aspects of the following: choreographic devices, notation used for basic composition forms, theories on rhythmic and structural composition.
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to opportunities to work with others to explore the relationship between music and dance. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
