This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to implement lighting designs and supervise lighting operations for productions in the screen, media, entertainment and events industries. It involves planning and implementing lighting designs for various live productions. The unit applies to those who display a high level of initiative, judgement and responsibility as they supervise lighting operations through the three phases of pre-production, production and post-production. In some States and Territories of Australia, a restricted electrical licence is required to repair and maintain production equipment. Restricted electrical licences allow a person to carry out electrical work incidental to a trade. Incidental work may include fault-finding on equipment or changing like for like equipment by disconnecting and reconnecting the fixed wiring. It does not include any other changes to the fixed wiring. Testing and tagging of electrical equipment must be carried out by a person with the required certificate of competency in accordance with the performance specifications of: Australian Standard 3760: 200 In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment Australian Standard 3002: 1985 Electrical installations - shows and carnivals. Users are advised to check with the relevant licensing authority for requirements.
Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU's LMS

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: plan and supervise the implementation of lighting designs for at least one production or event. In the course of the above, the candidate must: document a work plan for implementing the lighting designs, that include contingency strategies apply effective problem solving techniques to the realisation of lighting designs work collaboratively with lighting and production team when planning and realising lighting designs.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of: techniques for planning work when realising lighting designs ways to address issues and challenges that typically arise when realising lighting designs safety requirements relevant to installing and operating lighting for productions and events industry trends and developments that impact on lighting operations where to source lighting equipment and accessories how to use lighting design specifications to realise a range of lighting effects use of lighting equipment and accessories to achieve different lighting effects.
Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry. This includes access to: lighting designs and productions that require the implementation of lighting designs. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational education and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.
Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.
Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
