This unit describes skills and knowledge required to analyse and apply concepts about the social significance of music to one's own professional practice. It applies to individuals who require in-depth understanding of the function of music in society, particularly in relation to the cultural and commercial value of music. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Supersedes and is equivalent to CUSMLT502A - Apply concepts about the impact of music to professional practice
Evidence of the ability to: - source information about the role of music and music and audio technologies, including its history, social and cultural functions, commercial value and impact in other disciplines - analyse and synthesise research findings - develop and implement a strategy to incorporate understanding of the social, cultural and commercial values of music into own practice. Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must: - describe the historical evolution of music and music and audio technologies - explain the significance of music in different cultural contexts - describe the social impact of music - explain the commercial value of music in the contemporary context.
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to: - sources of relevant information. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
