This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to rehearse for a group performance to the required standard. This includes collaborating with other members of the group to prepare for rehearsals and discussing elements of performance. The unit applies to those who are musicians and vocalists in all genres and who need to rehearse in a group prior to performances No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: perform with a group on chosen instrument or voice in at least three rehearsals. In the course of the above, the candidate must: listen for and adjust intonation and nuance in performance give and respond to cues learn musical material prior to rehearsals apply interpretation and expression skills complete warm-up routines and set up required music and equipment consider working methods, personalities and special needs and contributions of other group members when rehearsing and performing contribute to rehearsal group discussion and culture.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of: components of rehearsal preparation materials needed to participate in a music rehearsal, including repertoire and equipment application of listening skills and music knowledge in rehearsals key aspects of group performance issues and challenges that typically arise in context of group rehearsals and strategies for overcoming them strategies for developing technical and musical skills to enhance performance of music in rehearsal strategies to evaluate own performance and respond to feedback work health and safety (WHS) principles as they apply to preparing to rehearse and rehearsing in a range of environments.

Assessment

Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry. This includes access to: instruments, equipment and rehearsal space required to demonstrate the performance evidence opportunities to rehearse with others. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
