This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use knowledge of music techniques to lead a group in ensemble or other musical performance. The unit applies to those who have responsibility for motivating others to reach a required standard during performance. Individuals apply a range of musicianship and managerial competencies but are not expected to conduct musical performances. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU's LMS

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: provide musical leadership in performance on at least three occasions, each in a different performance context. In the course of the above, the candidate must: provide directions to others follow work health and safety (WHS) requirements demonstrate the use of stagecraft skills.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of: key roles of industry affiliations and strategic alliances repertoire and stagecraft procedures and techniques required to provide musical leadership in performance process for developing aural memory, and how it can be applied to musical performance methods to enhance professional practice strategies to gather and respond to feedback and incorporate into performances types of and strategies for overcoming them that typically arise in the context of providing musical leadership in performance WHS requirements and procedures in relation to performing.
Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry. This includes access to: instruments and equipment required to demonstrate the performance evidence scores, charts and other written music resources performance participants, such as performers and technical crew performance venue with adequate space and acoustic qualities. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.
Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.
Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
