Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan music performance programs and present music performances in any musical genre. The unit applies to those who are working as instrumentalists or vocalists and who use high level technical, musicianship and stagecraft skills to engage audiences in a wide range of repertoire. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: plan and present at least three different music performance programs on selected instrument or voice according to performance briefs. In the course of the above, the candidate must: engage the audience with high level performance mastery of repertoire and well-developed stagecraft skills collaborate with others as required monitor and adjust own performances to achieve required sound, and maintain performance flow and audience experience present performances according to work health and safety (WHS) principles.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of: requirements for planning a program and preparing for a performance resources and equipment required to plan and present a performance technical and communication requirements for performing before an audience issues and challenges that arise in the context of presenting a music performance and strategies for overcoming them recovery measures used during performances when mitigating errors techniques used for minimising performance anxiety objective measures used to evaluate performances and incorporate feedback to improve performance different customs and traditions of performance contexts when entering and leaving the stage, accepting applause, acknowledging required personnel and providing encores WHS principles required in performance contexts.

Assessment

Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry. This includes access to: instruments and equipment required to demonstrate the performance evidence opportunities to present music performances before an audience interaction with others required to demonstrate the performance evidence performance venue required to present a music performance. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Academic Integrity

Plagiarism

Copying the words, ideas or creative works of other people or generative artificial intelligence tools, without referencing in accordance with stated University requirements. Students need to seek approval from the Unit Coordinator within the first week of study if they intend to use some of their previous work in an assessment task (self-plagiarism).

Unauthorised collaboration (collusion)

Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).

Contract cheating

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
