This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to expand repertoire and present an extended professional performance. The unit applies to those who are musicians with high level skills in areas including performance preparation, craft skills and musicianship, and who seek regular professional performance opportunities. They may be refining skills on either a first or second instrument, which can include the voice. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU's LMS

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: plan and present a performance program to a professional standard and in front of an audience on at least two occasions. In the course of the above, the candidate must: develop and implement a plan to refine own performance technique perform in a variety of instrumental and/or vocal combinations demonstrate control of chosen instrument and convey expressive qualities of instrument in performance demonstrate control of sound, techniques, intonation, rhythm, tempo, expression, phrasing, style and nuance to a professional performance standard monitor progress of own skill development and incorporate feedback on own performance.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of: strategies and exercises for refining technical skills and performance techniques qualities that contribute to professional standard of performance typical issues and challenges that arise in the context of refining performance technique and expanding repertoire, and strategies for overcoming them methods for performing music, including interpreting music, performing from memory, improvising or reading from charts or musical notation work health and safety (WHS) principles relevant to professional performance contexts.
Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry. This includes access to: instrument and equipment required to demonstrate the performance evidence opportunities to present performance programs before an audience acoustic space for performance. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Copying the words, ideas or creative works of other people, without referencing in accordance with stated University requirements. Students need to seek approval from the Unit Coordinator within the first week of study if they intend to use some of their previous work in an assessment task (self-plagiarism).
Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).
Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.
Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.
Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
