This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to rehearse and perform as a member of a group in a musical theatre performance. The unit applies to those who are performers and who receive supervision and guidance in practice sessions and rehearsals, however, are expected to display a high level of responsibility for themselves and others when applying their acting, dancing and singing skills in a live performance context. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU's LMS

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: perform as an ensemble member before an audience in at least one musical theatre production. In the course of the above the candidate must: integrate singing, dancing, acting, voice and movement skills in the role performed follow safe movement and vocal practices during rehearsals and performances show progression of performance skills over the rehearsal period improve own performance in response to constructive feedback contribute to evaluations of performance respond appropriately to performance context and contingencies that arise work collaboratively with production team members and other performers.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of: tools and techniques to evaluate performances and develop strategies for improvement principles underlying dance movements and techniques in a musical theatre performance context principles underlying vocal techniques in a musical theatre performance context techniques for integrating dance, movement, acting and singing in performances stage layout, special effects and directions musical elements health and safety standards associated with the following: o protection of body against injury from overuse o safe lifting procedures o strategies to overcome performance anxiety performance and rehearsal protocols strategies to pace energy and focus during rehearsals and performances relationship between rehearsals and performances contribution of own role to broader rehearsal and performance goals.
Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry. This includes access to: access to rehearsal and performance venues opportunities for musical theatre performances with audiences and other performers spaces with required flooring and equipment for performances. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Copying the words, ideas or creative works of other people or generative artificial intelligence tools, without referencing in accordance with stated University requirements. Students need to seek approval from the Unit Coordinator within the first week of study if they intend to use some of their previous work in an assessment task (self-plagiarism).
Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).
Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.
Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.
Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
