Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to adapt and develop techniques for performing to a camera for television or film productions, multimedia displays or online environments. The unit applies to those who wish to extend their performance techniques in areas including dance, musical theatre, singing and acting, covering the requirements of on-camera performances. Supervision and guidance are provided in practice sessions and rehearsals. Performers are also expected to display a high level of responsibility for themselves and others during film shoots. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: perform on-camera for at least two different productions. In the course of the above, the candidate must: follow direction take account of camera focus and framing repeat sequences with accuracy work within the requirements of lighting, set location, sound and costumes maintain a consistently high level of performance when repeating sequences or performing them in a random order use screen industry terminology correctly.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of: framing and camera angles in the context of performing to camera issues and challenges that typically arise when performing to camera and strategies to address them safe performance practices in relation to own performance genre health and safety principles and procedures that performers need to observe when participating in film shoots strategies and equipment used to develop techniques tools and techniques used to analyse performances protocols for setting up and running a film shoot screen industry terminology impact of own role in contributing to broader performance goals.

Assessment

Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry. This includes access to: opportunities to perform on-camera film shoot sets. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit information may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.

Unauthorised collaboration (collusion)

Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).

Contract cheating

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
