This unit describes skills and knowledge required to assist with different tasks associated with technical and staging aspects of live performances. It involves analysing the key elements of the production stating process, preparing for live performances and assisting with different operations during performances. The unit applies to those who use some discretion and judgement and operate within an established framework of plans and procedures for assisting with production operations. They would be supervised by personnel experienced in lighting, sound, staging and vision systems. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU's LMS

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to: assist with production operations for at least two different live performances. In the course of the above, the candidate must: make simple alterations to staging elements using applicable and safe techniques work collaboratively in a performance production team solve production operation problems in line with scope of responsibilities provide efficient and safe assistance with production operations in line with scope of responsibilities contribute to analysis of productions and identify ways of improving production operations.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of: staging elements stage and production terminology issues and challenges that can arise when assisting with production operations and solutions to address them organisational policies and procedures including: environmental impacts of operations bump-in and bump-out procedures WHS requirements relating to staging live productions, including: safe manual handing working with electrical equipment emergency procedures elements of production operations: basic maintenance procedures for audio equipment basic set assembly common stage machinery methods of tying drapes signals and other communication devices used when operating stage machinery adhesives and paints commonly used to construct and repair sets and props safety and environmental issues associated with prop construction relationship between staging and other production operations special requirements for automated staging systems.
Skills in this unit must be demonstrated in a workplace or simulated environment where the conditions are typical of those in a working environment in this industry. This includes access to: team environment in a live performance production presence of realistic time constraints for completion of work activities required tools and equipment different staging machinery and equipment different staging equipment workplace documentation. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational education and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.

Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).
Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.
Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.
Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
