Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to write music related material in response to a writing brief. It applies to individuals, such as freelance writers or journalists, who would be expected to write both original and non-narrative music content for a range of purposes, including reviews, critiques, program notes, editorials, commentary and music copy. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to: - produce materials that meet the requirements of a writing brief, including carrying out research, generating content ideas, collaborating with others and meeting deadlines - use music vocabulary, correct grammar, punctuation and writing style. Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must: - describe the information that is typically found in a writing brief - describe the copyright requirements that relate to use of information sources in written materials - list and describe appropriate information sources for research purposes.

Assessment

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to: - writing briefs - music related information sources. Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
