Description
This unit is specifically designed for students who elect to specialise in classical ballet in their final year of study. Students will work towards developing their classical ballet technique to professional level in barre, centre practice and pointe work (or for men, a special program in strength, stamina and men's technique).

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this unit students should be able to:
- Adapt to a range of technical variations and teaching methods expected by the profession.
- Articulate principles of alignment and functionality involved in the exercises with a professional level of detail.
- Demonstrate a high level of physical and conceptual understanding of the technical principles of classical ballet.
- Demonstrate a professional level of spatial awareness.
- Demonstrate physical alignment and balance appropriate to the technique developed to a professional level.
- Demonstrate refined self correction techniques, responsiveness to feedback and ability to absorb new and complex material.
- Embody a professional level of musicality.
- Embody advanced levels of strength, flexibility, coordination and cardio-vascular endurance, consistent with employment at a professional level.
- Embody the movement qualities expected inprofessional performance.
- Engage in self-assessment processes that indicate an advanced level of critical analysis of the technique.
- Execute each section of class work - stretching, barre, centre practice, adage, pirouettes, allegro/batterie, grand allegro and warm down at a professional level of achievement.
- Present work with a professional level of artistry.
Unit Content
- Advanced technique classes in the studio or on stage.
- Analysis, self correction and reflective thinking.
- Feedback, professional conduct and constructive criticism.
- Graded input in terms of increasing precision, complexity, and control and degree of difficulty.
- Studio based practice in specific areas of specialization in addition to daily technique classes pointe and men's coaching.
- Techniques designed to produce peak performance both physical and psychological.
