Description

This unit takes students through the processes and methodologies of preparing digital files - be they image files, vector files, text files or layout files - and making them ready for print. Pre-press is a complex intersection between design, particularly Graphic Design and the industrial print industry. This is an industry-focused unit requiring a great deal of technical knowledge and understanding in such areas as the preparation of documents and images, colour correction and methods of transferring digital files.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Colour correct images across a range of peripherals, software and file formats.
  2. Discuss common problems associated with colour management.
  3. Discuss type management strategies commonly used in prepress.
  4. Manage the components commonly used in prepress processes (pre-flight).
  5. Prepare a range of materials for inclusion in a page layout programme.
  6. Produce a range of publications to industry standards using a page layout programme.
