Description

This unit explores two major forms of graphic design: information design and advertising design. The first examines systems of graphical organisation, including maps, graphs, statistical graphics, charts and signs. The second explores the role of the designer within the commercial advertising industry across a range of media.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from DES2101

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse the ways in which information can be represented.
  2. Demonstrate industry specific processes and skills in solving communication problems.
  3. Describe and discuss the design principles used to represent information across a range of media.
  4. Describe and discuss the role of the designer in commercial advertising.
  5. Design a set of advertising materials that convey a message.

  1. Advertising campaign design.
  2. Information Design.
  3. Symbols, signs and logos (Iconography).
  4. Visual language.
