Description

This unit provides students with the opportunity to participate in the development of a creative project located in an industry environment. Projects can be carried out individually or in teams and will be based on a real life problem. Students may have the opportunity to respond to a client brief or negotiate with their lecturer regarding the nature of the project. The unit will require students to engage in authentic project management process as they develop their project, analysing needs and appropriate methods, developing design and implementation plans and critically evaluating results, establishing clear metrics, templates and standards.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse problems to identify opportunities for the design and development of services/products to address them.
  2. Critically evaluate individual and team performance within the project management lifecycle.
  3. Develop authentic documentation to act as a tool for communication and management.
  4. Identify and scope the roles and tasks within a design and development project.
  5. Undertake a project demonstrating a professional level of discipline skills and understanding of processes relevant to creative industries.

  3. Managing team roles and individual accountability in creative projects.

Additional Learning Experience Information

This unit offers authentic project-based learning experience where students work on live project brief collaborating with industry partners/clients. The on-campus classes are highly interactive and contain a range of lecture, tutorial and meetings (with teams and clients). Lectures are used to introduce the central concepts of the unit focusing on project management which is tailored for design projects. Lectures also include guest speakers from the industry to provide students with insights of managing projects and working with clients including professional communication skills. With a strong focus on teamwork, weekly tutorials include team meetings, which involve making critical decisions developing commissioned works.This unit also involves meetings with clients forming an intergral part of the unit’s learning giving students opportunities to develop strong communication and negotiation skills in an authentic industry environment.
