Description

This unit will introduce students to drama teaching in a senior secondary context. The unit will explore some of the major practitioners and innovators in the field as well as familiarising students with Drama Courses (ATAR and General units). Through associated practical work students will develop skills in facilitating drama in the classroom incorporating the function of the teacher, classroom strategies and management, planning, programming and assessing.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Evaluate the current SCSA curriculum to inform and design lesson planning in secondary drama education.
  2. Critically evaluate a range of strategies and resources (including ICT) to develop effective teaching and learning activities for a secondary drama classroom.
  3. Critically evaluate learning programs to create a sequence of lessons informed by the secondary drama curriculum.
  4. Critically analyse and create a range of assessment strategies and tools to assess, make consistent judgement and provide feedback on secondary drama students’ knowledge and understanding.

  1. Lesson planning using SCSA curriculum.
  2. Teaching strategies and resources for secondary drama education.
  3. Lesson planning and sequencing.
  4. Create learning programs – forward planning documents.
  5. Formative and summative assessments techniques for secondary drama education.
  6. Nature and scope of drama education in senior schools.

Academic Integrity

Plagiarism

Copying the words, ideas or creative works of other people or generative artificial intelligence tools, without referencing in accordance with stated University requirements. Students need to seek approval from the Unit Coordinator within the first week of study if they intend to use some of their previous work in an assessment task (self-plagiarism).

Unauthorised collaboration (collusion)

Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).

Contract cheating

Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.

Cheating in an exam

Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.

Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.

Assessment Extension
