Description

This unit provides an introduction to making theatre performance from the perspective of the 'director'. Students will explore the director's complex relationship with the actor, the interpretation of scripts and basic technical knowledge.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply a knowledge of the basic principles of lighting, sound and stage management in performance.
  2. Collaborate in the production of a theatrical performance.
  3. Demonstrate a range of voice and movement in performance.
  4. Explore the relationship between actor and spectator through reflective performance.
  5. Identify through performance the relationships between script, director, actors, crew and spectator.

Unit Content

  1. Basic principles of lighting and stage management.
  2. Exploration of written texts and appropriate performance styles.
  3. Performance components/methodology the interdependence of all production members, including negotiation, collaboration and presentation.
  4. Performance spaces physical and psychological relationships between actor and audience.
  5. The actors craft voice, body, imagination, action.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
