Description

This unit provides a review of current Australian and Western Australian curriculum. Through this unit students will continue to develop strategies for planning and delivering programs of student activities in Design and Technology required for Years 11-12 secondary students. Students will engage in an exploration of learning processes used in the Design and Technology classroom.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must have completed DTE 2110

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse technology education in terms of Australian and Western Australian Curriculum.
  2. Devise teaching and learning activities which utilise complex thinking skills.
  3. Plan and prepare lesson activities for Years 11-12 secondary students.
  4. Plan and deliver a Design and Technology activity.
  5. Develop an awareness of the purpose and goals of Design and Technology education through research activities.
  6. Develop a range of valid and reliable assessment strategies based on appropriate teaching and learning theory.
  7. Design and Technology knowledge and content as related to the AITSL National Standards.

Unit Content

  1. Design and Technology Australian and Western Australian curriculum.
  2. Plan lessons and tasks that are differentiated in order to cater for the variety of students learning styles and abilities.
  3. Develop learning programs for Years 11-12 secondary students.
  4. Develop an understanding of Teaching design and technology.
  5. Develop a teaching and learning program with all necessary information to effectively teach a Year 11-12 secondary students in Design and Technology.
  6. Select and examine the use of resources that support the teaching of Design and Technology including ICT, excursions, incursions, teachers’ aides (including the technician) and the school library.
