Description

The unit provides an introduction to the philosophy and teaching of Design and Technology through a review of current Western Australian curriculum. Through this unit students will develop strategies for planning and delivering programs of student activities in Design and Technology. Students will engage in an exploration of learning processes used in the Design and Technology classroom.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

Both on-campus and residency mode of delivery available. Selected Pre-service Teachers may complete some aspects of the unit within the residency schools as part of the residency mode.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse technology education activities in terms of the Curriculum Framework.
  2. Articulate the nature of Design and Technology education.
  3. Devise learning activities which utilise complex thinking skills.
  4. Plan and prepare a program of Design and Technology activities.
  5. Prepare and deliver a Design and Technology activity.

  5. Technology and Enterprise Learning area framework.
  6. Technology, society and the environment.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Students will be involved in laboratory work, demonstrations, discussions, research and lectures as appropriate. Students will be expected to devote time outside of class to complete exercises, assignments and reading.
