Description

This unit focuses on the development of an understanding of pedagogical and assessment strategies in Design and Technology through an analysis of teaching, the production of a portfolio and the contextualisation of outcome level statements. Students will also develop maintenance and safety procedures related to workshop tools and equipment.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Assess student achievement of the Design and Technology learning area outcomes.
  2. Develop a portfolio that demonstrates coverage of Design and Technology learning area outcomes safe operating procedures.
  3. Devise learning activities which will address the outcomes for the Design and Technology learning area.
  4. Use a rational pedagogical process to help students solve technological problems.

  4. Safe and sustainable practices.
  5. Teaching methods in design and technology.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Students will be involved in laboratory work, demonstrations, discussions, research and lectures as appropriate. Students will be expected to work outside of class time to complete exercises, assignments and readings.

Description

This unit provides a review of current Australian and Western Australian curriculum. Through this unit students will continue to develop strategies for planning and delivering programs of student activities in Design and Technology required for secondary students. Students will engage in an exploration of learning processes used in the Design and Technology classroom.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Analyse technology education in terms of Australian and Western Australian Curriculum.
  2. Devise teaching and learning activities which utilise complex thinking skills.
  3. Develop an awareness of the purpose and goals of Design and Technology education through research activities.
  4. Develop a range of valid and reliable assessment strategies based on appropriate teaching and learning theory.

Unit Content

  1. Design and Technology Australian and Western Australian curriculum.
  2. Plan units of work and tasks that are differentiated in order to cater for the variety of students learning styles and abilities.
  3. Develop an understanding of Teaching design and technology.
  4. Develop an understanding assessments used in Design and Technology education.
  5. Design and Technology knowledge and content as related to the AITSL National Standards.
