A practical study of the production, form, properties and structure of basic materials and their related processing. The focus is on the development of manipulative competencies and problem solving skills by selecting appropriate materials and applying manufacturing processes to meet a range of problems. The function, operation and maintenance of tools and machines in a safe working environment will also be addressed. Students are advised that this unit will attract a small incidental fee for coursework materials.
Students must have completed DTC2101, DTM1104, DTM1105
On completion of this unit students should be able to:

This unit continues to develop an understanding of the production, form, properties and structure of wood materials and their related processing. The development of problem solving skills in a design context by selecting appropriate materials and applying manufacturing processes to meet a range of problems. The function, operation and maintenance of woodwork tools and machines in a safe working environment. Special emphasis given to wood, but not excluding other materials. The unit is designed to focus on skills, knowledge and production requirements for secondary classes in Years 11-12.
