Description

This unit explores the limitless potential of the Arts for harnessing the natural curiosities of young children and extending their capacity for higher order thinking and expression beyond conventional forms of communication. Pre-service teachers will build on their well-established practical knowledge to develop an understanding of the powerful nature of integrated learning through dance, drama, music, visual arts and media experiences. Pre-service teachers will investigate current research into learning environments, creativity and learning to explore ways of planning, implementing and evaluating an integrated Arts curriculum. This unit reflects contemporary views in education and promotes an innovative approach to educational practices for children from birth to eight years old.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass AED1240, MUE2240 and AED3245 to enrol in this unit

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of integrated arts.
  2. Analyse current research into the relationship between creative environments and learning.
  3. Manage production processes in an early childhood setting for an integrated arts performance.
  4. Apply creative processes to generate authentic practical arts experiences.
  5. Identify and apply appropriate arts pedagogy.

  1. Theoretical perspectives of and current research into learning and teaching through integrated arts.
  2. Skills and creative strategies for managing the production process.
  3. Practical experiences across the Arts.
  4. Pedagogical practices to foster an integrated arts curriculum.
  5. Planning, implementing and evaluating an integrated Arts curriculum.

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
