Description

This unit involves the identification of an appropriate research project, the development of a proposal and the acquisition of the intellectual and practical skills required to undertake the project.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from ASH5101

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in the intellectual and practical skills needed to carry out the project.
  2. Identify an appropriate Honours project.
  3. Perform a literature review relevant to the project.
  4. Plan and prepare a research proposal for the project.

Unit Content

  1. Development of a project proposal.
  2. Literature survey and review.
  3. Special intellectual skills needed for the project.
  4. Special practical skills needed for the project.
  5. The nature and scope of an Honours project.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Initially the unit will be based on consultations between the student, the unit co-ordinator and potential supervisors. Following selection of a supervisor and topic of interest the student will consult with the supervisor regarding relevant literature, identification of the project, development of the proposal, presentation of the research seminar and the identification of special intellectual and practical skills the student will require. The student will also maintain contact with the unit co-ordinator.
