In this unit, students will work on pre-defined learning outcomes in a public, private or not-for-profit organisation. This will enable students to develop a broad range of work-related skills that will enhance their graduate capabilities. Students will also be required to take significant responsibility for their own learning outcomes. Host organisations will be secured through the Workplace Opportunities Coordinator and/or the Unit Coordinator, or as a result of pre-approved networking and contacts developed by the student. Students will not be paid for the work they undertake. Enrolment into this unit is by application ONLY. Students are required to submit a current Resume, a statement addressing their suitability and may be required to attend an interview. As this unit focuses on the personal and professional development of the individual, no RPL will be considered for this unit.
Students must pass 180 credit points
On completion of this unit students should be able to:
The unit requires a minimum commitment by students of 100 hours which will include work experience with a public, private or not-for-profit organisation. Some of this work may occur on campus, in a workplace, or wherever appropriate to fulfil the needs of the defined program of work. Students will be required to participate in an induction on the requirements and procedures for completing a work placement, including documentation and risk management compliance. Students may also be required to attend additional on-campus sessions during semester for debriefing and feedback purposes. Students will need to maintain regular email contact and attend meetings with the Unit Coordinator if required. Students will be expected to effectively perform in the workplace to meet the needs of the organisation, as well as complete the units assessment requirements. Students are expected to work autonomously, show initiative and generate ideas relating to their assigned tasks in the workplace. Host supervisors and the unit coordinator will liaise on student progress towards achieving learning outcomes during the placement period.
