Description

Under the supervision of their academic supervisor(s), this unit involves the preparation and submission of a 15000 - 20000 word research thesis, as well as examination by two examiners.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply transliteracy proficiency in the analysis and evaluation of research results.
  2. Communicate a clear and coherent exposition of knowledge in discipline area, which address the overall research question(s).
  3. Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own independent learning and practice.
  4. Plan and execute a research proposal with some intellectual independence.
  5. Review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise theoretical and research literature with some intellectual independence.

Unit Content

  1. Design, collection, analysis and interpretation of quantitative and/or qualitative research results.
  2. Review of literature and theoretical/conceptual framework(s).
  3. University examination processes.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Under the supervision of their academic supervisor(s), students assume responsibility for the implementation, analysis and writing up of their research project. Students should meet regularly with their supervisor(s) to discuss their progress and subsequent plans. Students present at least one draft of their thesis on which the supervisor(s) will provide feedback and suggestions for improvement. Successful completion of this unit requires students to prepare and submit their thesis for examination by two examiners, which are assessed for quality academic and professional standards, including written communication (structure, language and conventions), critical analysis of a research topic (depth of thought, development of argument and analysis), depth and breadth of coverage, and the ability to research effectively, using both academic and contemporary sources.
