Description

Students enrol in this unit for the two final semesters in order to undertake independent study in their chosen field to complete the Master by research. Students will have been trained in an appropriate research methodology and techniques, enabling them to critically evaluate their field of study. By the end of their candidature, students should be capable of conceiving, designing and conducting a research project, and producing a well-argued thesis.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must have passed FBL6120 and FBL6140 and one unit from FBL6100 or RES5115.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Justify a research thesis that satisfies the requirements for ethical research.
  2. Analyse research data and synthesise findings to a research problem.
  3. Present an independent research thesis that conceptualises a research problem and which demonstrates a theoretical or conceptual background to the study.
  4. Develop a research topic through scholarship and a review of the literature.
  5. Prepare a research proposal on a conceptually or professionally significant topic.
