Description

Intermediate study of the French language for communication purposes by exposure to a large variety of aspects of French culture.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass 1 units from FRE1102

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Have a sufficient understanding of the French language to be able to communicate with native speakers in most areas of everyday life, with a high degree of accuracy.
  2. Read French at a reasonably fluent level and comment on basic passages.
  3. Use the French language with a level of skill equivalent to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - Level A1+->A2 for Understanding (Listening, Reading), Speaking (Interaction + Production), Writing.
  4. Write more complex prose on essential areas related to everyday life.

Unit Content

  1. Greater exposure to material from all communication media (newspapers, magazines, TV and radio programmes, recordings, video recordings and films etc.) with the objective of:
  2. Iincreasing the students' exposure to a large variety of aspects of French culture.
  3. Improving the ability of the students to converse in French.
  4. Improving the students' aural and oral fluency and comprehension of aural and written material.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Situational oral exercises, simulations, discussion groups, workshops, role-play. Written grammatical and syntactic exercises, dictation, exercises in creative writing. Use of audio-visual resources. Oral and written comprehension exercises, analysis of intermediate level written and oral French.
