Description

Communicative French language study centred around the study of authentic texts and audio-visual documents concerning significant social activities in France.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Read French at a reasonably fluent level grasping the meaning of the passage.
  2. Recognise and use French non-verbal communication techniques.
  3. Understand basic differences in accent in France.
  4. Understand more complex everyday French.
  5. Use the French language with a level of skill equivalent to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - Level A1+->A2 for Understanding (Listening, Reading), Speaking (Interaction + Production), Writing.
  6. Write prose of greater complexity on essential areas related to everyday life.

Unit Content

  1. Development of comprehension of the oral and written French language used in the study of everyday French life.
  2. Development of fluency in the use of the spoken and written French language used in the study of general aspects of French everyday life.
  3. Practice in the analysis of various registers of more complex written French.
  4. Practice in the oral use of French with a view to developing the students' self confidence.
  5. Practice in the use of French creative writing and translation.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Situational oral exercises, simulations, discussion groups, workshops, role-play. Written grammatical and syntactic exercises, dictation exercises in creative writing. Use of audio-visual resources. Oral and written comprehension exercises, analysis of intermediate level oral and written French.
