This unit provides an introduction to web design. Students will learn to design basic websites following the conventions of web standards. This unit focuses on front-end of web design exploring design principles and development strategies for interface and visual communication appropriate for online delivery. Students will gain a solid foundation of web design skills.

The first part of the unit is used to introduce the central concepts that are relevant in understanding the principles and practices of web design. This involves a blend of experiences including direct face-to-face presentations and group discussions. This is a highly technical unit involving planning, testing and implementation of functional websites. To support the technical nature of the unit, the second part of the unit is designed to guide students to gain a confidence of web design though step-by-step instructions.
