Description

This unit extends upon the knowledge and skills acquired in a prior web design unit. It provides students with theoretical understandings and practical skills associated with implementation of advanced web design. Students will learn to plan, design and develop carefully considered contemporary websites through understanding of responsive concepts and aesthetic concerns.

Prerequisite Rule

Student must complete GDI2100 before being allowed to enrol in this unit.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Rationalise and communicate planning for a responsive website.
  2. Critically discuss and propose appropriate solutions to web design issues associated with user experience.
  3. Develop and implement dynamic web content including animation and visual effects.
  4. Design responsive websites for a range of screen-based devices.
  5. Evaluate and test a website using various screen-based devices.

  1. Planning and articulation of design solutions for advanced web design.
  2. Planning and articulation of advanced web design.
  3. Dynamic web contents and visual effects.
  4. Responsive web design and techniques.
  5. Evaluation and user testing of responsive websites.

Additional Learning Experience Information

The first part of the unit is used to introduce user-centred design approaches to explore web design. Concepts of merging responsive design and interactive content development will be discussed to extend students understanding of web design. The second part of the unit involving a series of class activities focuses on small practical working projects to help students to gain solid technical skills to develop advanced websites.
