This unit examines the culture of games through history, and roles of games in areas such as entertainment, education, and marketing. It focuses on how historical, cultural and genre contexts are central to the understanding and production of meaningful games. Topics covered include the history of games; issues of war, sex, and racism in gaming; corporate and independent game development; video game genres; and principles and techniques for the management and creation of production level design documentation.
