Description

This unit extends students understanding of the principles of best practice for outcomes based teaching and learning in Health Education, and in the broader context of the HPE learning area. Emphasis will be placed on the nature of monitoring and assessment in Health Education and designing of tasks to promote engagement and achievement; student awareness of key content areas in Health Education; and Senior Schooling in WA with specific attention to the courses for Health Studies.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Review and analyse contemporary principles of best practice and relevant resources.
  2. Develop strategies and approaches towards establishing a safe environment within the Health Education classroom.
  3. Develop rich tasks and contextual learning for quality outcomes based Health Education.
  4. Develop assessment strategies for monitoring student achievement in Health Education.
  5. Develop a broader understanding of key content areas in Health Education in WA.
  6. Analyse the design, implementation and appropriate delivery modes for the Senior Schooling courses of Health Studies.

Unit Content

  1. Best practice towards developing assessment and monitoring.
  2. Assessment tasks in Health Education.
  3. School based and commercial Health Education resources and curriculum.
  4. Content enrichment through research tasks.
  5. Senior Schooling courses for Health Studies.

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECUs LMS
