Description

This unit evaluates the talent management paradigm, inclusive of the functions of recruitment and development, and how these generate high performance work environments.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

This unit will be offered in an accelerated mode over seven weeks.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must be enrolled in T36 and T39 and have completed a minimum of 40 credit points to enrol into this unit.

Equivalent Rule

Unit equivalent to MAN6722.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Evaluate key theoretical and practical conceptions of talent management.
  2. Solve authentic business problems in talent recruitment, selection and retention practices using relevant research material.
  3. Justify development strategies which aim to ensure that the organisation has the supply of talent to meet strategic objectives.
  4. Produce a talent management action plan based on the analysis of an organisational level problem or opportunity and justify the plan considering its ethical and social consequences.

Unit Content

  1. Talent attraction: Legal and ethical considerations in acquiring talent, job analysis, recruitment methods and employer branding.
  2. Talent selection: The interviews and other selections methods.
  3. Talent development: Formal talent development programs, relationship-based talent development, interventions, job experiences as a basis for talent development and informal talent development opportunities.
  4. Talent retention: Strategy and workforce planning, succession planning and improving talent retention.
