Description

This unit examines pedagogical approaches to teaching Civics and Citizenship and Global Education within the Humanities and Social Sciences learning area. The unit explores integrated approaches to teaching Civics and Citizenship and Global Education in primary school.

Prerequisite Rule

Must pass 1 unit from HSS2240 or SSE2240 and 1 unit from HSS2260

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Identify a relevant focus for teaching Civics and Citizenship curriculum and Global Education.
  2. Develop teaching and learning plans using effective pedagogical approaches, including integration, for teaching Civics and Citizenship and Global Education.
  3. Locate and utilise a range of resources for effective teaching and learning in the Humanities and Social Sciences learning area.
  4. Identify and apply appropriate techniques to assess and evaluate student levels of achievement in the Humanities and Social Sciences learning area.

  1. Pedagogical approaches to teaching Civics and Citizenship and Global Education.
  2. Examples of Civics and Citizenship and Global Education initiatives and programs.
  3. Planning for Civics and Citizenship.
  4. Planning for whole school Global Education initiatives/programs through the Humanities and Social Sciences and integrated approaches.
  5. Identify and evaluate resources for teaching Civics and Citizenship and Global Education.

Learning Experience

Students will engage in learning experiences through ECU Blackboard as well as additional ECU learning technologies.
