Description

Students will develop the skills required to follow a systematic process to manage occupational health and safety risk. Students learn the skills to assess a workplace for occupational safety and health risks using a variety of tools, formulate priorities and devise practical solutions to enhance workplace occupational safety and health.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass either HST1152 or OHS3404

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply a risk management plan to improve workplace risk management.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the main elements of a workplace risk based health and safety management system.
  3. Analyse and communicate occupational safety and health information and data to key stakeholders.
  4. Evaluate issues which contribute to the risk of incidents and injuries in workplaces.
  5. Analyse incident causation models to reduce risk and prevent workplace incidents and injuries.
  6. Complete a risk assessment of a workplace hazard.
  7. Communicate risk reduction strategies to promote workplace safety in a specific industry or workplace.
  8. Describe the requirements of an workplace incident investigation and emergency management process.
