The unit introduces students to the broad area of Environmental Health Management. It examines the organisation and administration of environmental health services. Students are provided with an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of local, state and federal governments in promoting and protecting public health. Students will develop an in-depth understanding of public health planning processes and environmental health management practices, at the individual, corporate and community level. Focus topics include; emergency management, environmental noise assessment, and the association between health and the indoor environment. Students will learn how to identify health priority areas and develop evidence-based action plans to address those priority areas.
On completion of this unit students should be able to:
Students will engage in learning experiences through ECU Blackboard as well as additional ECU learning technologies.
On-campus students attend weekly lectures, case studies and discussion to present the learning material and to stimulate critical thinking and problem solving skills in the field of environmental health management. Off-campus students access the material via Blackboard. The unit uses specially prepared notes, readings and tutorials to present the learning material and to stimulate critical thinking and problem solving skills in the field of environmental health management.
