Description

In this unit students will develop skills in the management of occupational safety and health using a systems-based approach following relevant standards. Students will explore several industry applications of occupational safety and health management systems, for example the safety case regime in the oil and gas industry. Some common occupational safety and health issues that exist in today's work environments are examined and used as case studies to develop occupational safety and health management systems.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must pass HST1152 and HST2145

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Promote an Occupational Safety and Health Management System to encourage an organisation’s safety performance improvement.
  2. Understand the requirements of relevant Occupational Safety and Health Management System standards to enable the development of an effective Occupational Safety and Health Management System.
  3. Describe how to implement an Occupational Safety and Health Management System in an organisation.
  4. Evaluate an Occupational Safety and Health Management System to enable continuous safety performance improvement.
