Description

In this unit, students will investigate the interaction between humans and their work environment through physical, cognitive and organisational ergonomic principles. Students will develop and apply knowledge of human anatomy to workplace settings in order to design healthier and safer environments. Physical ergonomics in the workplace, such as manual handling and prolonged postures, are explored and evaluated. Cognitive ergonomics, through the design of displays and controls, and their impact on work health and safety, are also examined.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

An off campus version of this unit is delivered fully online with all resources and materials accessed through the University Learning Management System.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply ergonomic principles in a work environment.
  2. Describe different types of ergonomics.
  3. Analyse psychological aspects of work organisation and job design.
  4. Identify the environmental, physiological and psychological factors, that influence human behaviour in the workplace.
  5. Apply principles of employee participation in job design.
  6. Identify factors that enhance or impede workplace performance.
