Description

This unit is the first stage of a research project which will develop critical and analytical skills by undertaking and completing research in an area of relevance. The project is carried out on an individual basis. Research projects are supervised by staff who possess research interests and experience in the relevant area.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must have passed either RES5115 or MMP6101.

Equivalent Rule

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Critically review literature relating to the research topic to identify current knowledge in the field, establish gaps and construct an effective research question.
  2. Construct appropriate methodology to address research question.
  3. Apply effective project management strategies and tools to plan research
  4. Address ethical issues relating to the research topic in accordance with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) research code of conduct.
  5. Develop a research proposal for the investigation of a contemporary issue in the relevant area of specialisation and communicate it to an academic and professional audience.

  1. Ethical approvals and requirements for the research.
  2. Knowledge and practice in applied research, specifically in relation to:
  3. Literature Review.
  4. Research Design.
  5. Sampling equipment.
  6. Sampling methods.

Learning Experience

Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
