This is the first of two units to complete a coursework Masters degree research project. In this Unit the research proposal is developed, including the background literature review, the project aims and objectives, and the research methodology. The project is carried out on an individual basis, usually in the student’s workplace, and will be supervised by an academic staff member who possesses research interests and/or experience in the relevant area.
Students must have passed RES5115 and successfully completed 120 credits points from core units.
Students enrolled in I01 must have completed OHS6144, OHS6159, and OHS6162.

On completion of this unit students should be able to:
Students will engage in learning experiences via ECU’s LMS as well as additional ECU learning technologies
Students undertake an activity in collaboration or consultation with an industry partner but do not spend any time or only a very small amount of time (e.g. 1-2 short visits) in an actual workplace.
As a research unit, students are required to collaborate with a designated supervisor, a crucial part of the project research team, for regular consultation. Assignments will be marked by an independent marker who is not part of the research team. Each student project requires at least two supervisors assigned based on their expertise. For I01 Master of Occupational Hygiene students, the following criteria applies in accordance with AIOH Accreditation requirements: 1. One supervisor will be a Certified Occupational Hygienist; 2. The project must contain an element of occupational hygiene-related data collection

Due to the professional competency skill development associated with this Unit, student attendance/participation within listed in-class activities and/or online activities including discussion boards is compulsory. Students failing to meet participation standards as outlined in the unit information may be awarded an I Grade (Fail - incomplete). Students who are unable to meet this requirement for medical or other reasons must seek the approval of the unit coordinator.

Students need to seek approval from the Unit Coordinator within the first week of study if they intend to use some of their previous work in an assessment task (self-plagiarism).
Working with other students and submitting the same or substantially similar work or portions of work when an individual submission was required. This includes students knowingly providing others with copies of their own work to use in the same or similar assessment task(s).
Organising a friend, a family member, another student or an external person or organisation (e.g. through an online website) to complete or substantially edit or refine part or all of an assessment task(s) on their behalf.
Using or having access to unauthorised materials in an exam or test.
Serious outcomes may be imposed if a student is found to have committed one of these breaches, up to and including expulsion from the University for repeated or serious acts.
