Description

Arts Practicum has been designed to offer students a one semester placement with an appropriate community based agency or organisation. During the semester they will have the opportunity to use generic and specialist skills in the completion of a project or tasks of recognisable value to the agency/organisation. The unit will therefore provide students with practical experience of a professional workplace, and enhance their post graduation employment prospects.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a professional workplace and/or by preparation of a detailed report on a specified project.
  2. Identify the ways in which their professional skills may be utilised by an agency/organisation.
  3. Prepare a curriculum vitae detailing their qualifications, personal attributes and work experience.
  4. Reflect and report on their practicum project and learning experience.

Unit Content

  1. Complete a placement requiring the equivalent of one semester unit (117 hours) to be spent on defined tasks or a project, to be supervised primarily by the agency/organisation.
  2. Negotiate an appropriate practicum placement with an agency/organisation and the unit coordinator.
  3. Prepare a detailed CV.
  4. Present a report according to the specifications required by the agency/organisation, where applicable.
  5. Submit a written report on the placement to the practicum co-ordinator and agency/organisation.

Additional Learning Experience Information

The scope and form of the project or tasks will be agreed upon by student, agency/organisation and practicum coordinator prior to the commencement of the practicum. The project will be undertaken at times convenient to the agency/organisation and the student, and will be supervised primarily by the agency/organisation.here are no seminars or on-campus meetings for this unit. Regular online access is necessary for all students. Unit information and forms are made available via Blackboard. Assignments must be submitted via Blackboard.
