Description

This unit introduces students to the concepts and principles of IMM development through integrated authoring systems. It includes an overview of a state-of-the-art authoring environment and an examination of the IMM production model upon which it is based. Students are exposed to the principles and practices involved in developing digitlal media products using a Integrated Development Environment and are required to author a significant prototype of an digital media product using this authoring system.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply critical thinking and problem analysis skills in interactive media authoring contexts.
  2. Demonstrate a capacity for self-instruction in developing skills and expertise in the use of interactive media authoring tools.
  3. Develop an understanding of programming structures for interactive media development.
  4. Develop effective organisational strategies for interactive media projects.
  5. Select and use appropriate tools for developing and testing interactive media projects.
  6. Understand the processes and theory related to interactive media project development.

  2. Media integration.
  3. Principles of interactive media authoring.
  4. Problem analysis and solution strategies for interactive media authoring tasks.
  5. Programming techniques and structures.

Additional Learning Experience Information

There are four components to this unit: lectures, workshops, readings/research and assessments. Students will be set exercises and activities to complete during tutorial sessions. Regular attendance at lectures and tutorials is part of the course requirements. Material covered during lectures will be contained in the textbooks but will need to be complemented by individual research and reading from external sources.
