Scientific and medical advancements have repercussions on the health of individuals, cultures, economies and the planet itself. Journalists play an important role in informing the public about the progress of science and health, and the media is a forum for debate about the social, financial, legal and ethical issues linked with scientific advancements and variations in health policies. This unit seeks to familiarise students with the basic processes of scientific and medical progress and to develop skills in communication about health and science to readerships with different vocabularies and knowledge bases.
This unit is a combination/merger of the following units: JOU4108 JOU2108 JOU4113 JOU3113 Students who have done any of these cannot also do this unit, as content will be repeated.
On completion of this unit students should be able to:
Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through ECU Blackboard.
