Description

This unit enables students to extend their understanding of mathematics teaching across all primary years. Strategies and resources for incorporating mathematical processes, content and skills in ways that engage and motivate children are addressed, as are issues associated with numeracy across the curriculum. Students will use contemporary curriculum documents to plan and assess ongoing mathematics teaching and learning into middle childhood. Support will be provided to enable students to continue the development of their personal mathematical knowledge.

Students must pass 1 units from MAE2240

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Communicate in oral and written forms an understanding of the National Teacher Standards.
  2. Develop medium to long term learning and assessment programs for mathematics based on contemporary curriculum documents and resources.
  3. Evaluate and extend their personal mathematical knowledge.
  4. Incorporate the process skills such as understanding, fluency, problem solving and reasoning mathematically when planning and assessing learning experiences.
  5. Recognise and use opportunities to integrate different areas of mathematics and develop numeracy skills across the curriculum.
  6. Select and use motivating strategies and resources for the teaching, learning and assessment of mathematics in the primary years.

  2. Integration of mathematics across the curriculum.
  3. Long term planning and assessment in mathematics.
  4. Motivating strategies and resources for the teaching, learning and assessment of mathematics in the primary years.
