In this unit students will be given the opportunity to develop a broad view of the complexity of designing work-related learning to support the achievement of organisational goals. The unit introduces the basic concepts and theories of workplace learning and training and asks students' to apply some of these concepts to workplace issues and to participate in simulated training delivery. This unit encourages students to construct their own concepts of workplace learning, and assess their own skills for managing learning at work. The student will complete the unit by constructing learning programmes and experiencing programme delivery.

Students will engage in learning experiences through ECU Blackboard as well as additional ECU learning technologies.
On-campus students attend a weekly interactive three hour seminar. The seminar will include lectures, small group activities, role plays, debates, and team games. Students are encouraged to develop training delivery skills through a range of practical activities. The teaching and learning approach in this unit is enhanced through in-class discussions, where the skills of working effectively with others (specifically team working, task collaboration and working productively with people from diverse cultures), communicating effectively, critical appraisal and the ability to generate ideas are emphasized. Students are required to complete individual and group assessments which are assessed for quality academic and professional standards, including written communication (structure, language and conventions), critical analysis (depth of thought, logical analysis and insight), depth and breadth of coverage, the ability to research effectively using both academic and practitioner sources.. Regular online access is required. Off-campus students cover the same content as the on-campus unit. Off-campus students are expected to complete a range of learning activities such as analysing case studies, answering review questions and participating in on-line discussions. Off-campus students access this unit via Blackboard. Regular on-line access is required. The lecturer's role in this unit is primarily to guide and facilitate student learning. The role of the student is to undertake self-directed learning through wide reading and completing a range of learning activities. Students are expected to become familiar with library resources that are relevant to this unit. As a minimum, it is expected that the student should read the relevant textbook chapters as well as supplementary material and assigned readings.
