Description

This capstone unit provides students with experience in synthesising and applying the skills and knowledge acquired in previous units within the Master of Management Information Systems. In this unit the student completes a semester long industry project under the general supervision of the lecturer, or academic mentor. The student will develop context specific practical experience along with professional interpersonal and communications skills.

Prerequisite Rule

Students must have completed a minimum of 180 credit points

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Undertake a workplace project using an established project management framework.
  2. Perform effective communication to all project team stakeholders.
  3. Demonstrate expertise in collaboratively managing projects through documented, individual contributions.
  4. Assess stakeholder needs and apply effective ethical practices.

  2. Effective client communication.
  3. Project Integration Management.
  4. Define project requirements.
  5. Ethical issues in managing projects and determining requirements.
  6. Reporting outcomes.

Students will engage in learning experiences through ECU Blackboard as well as additional ECU learning technologies.

Additional Learning Experience Information

Students will source a suitable group project which is reviewed and approved by the unit coordinator. Projects will incorporate industry engagement and will provide the requisite breadth of knowledge and integration of skills necessary to meet desired learning outcomes. Students will undertake an ICT project that is related to course content. Students will select and complete a project proposal in the first three weeks of semester. Seminars and/or online recordings will be given to establish the important ethical and professional aspects of practice, project management and quality principles. Following this introduction and proposal approval by the client and unit supervisor, students will conduct their project via independent study, with the student regularly reporting to, and consulting with, a project supervisor via email and/or face to face discussion. Online materials (including recorded lectures) will be made available to establish the aspects of professional practice, project management and quality principles. Students undertaking all projects will be required to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of project management, teamwork, ethics and communication skills. On-Campus Students will attend on campus classes as well as engage in learning activities through weekly seminars and activities in Blackboard. To maximise engagement and opportunities for learning, some of the learning activities may be conducted in the form of webinars and or video conferencing; mirroring the way that businesses use to communicate and learn. Details about these activities are provided in the unit plan schedule. Online Students will engage in learning experiences through ECU Blackboard as well as additional ECU learning technologies. These may include the use of webinars, videoconferencing and or online discussion board activities. Details about these activities are provided in the unit plan schedule.
